Went back and looked at the stats. Davis outgained ISU 558-415. Wright had 8 carries for 71 yards in about a quarter and a half before getting hurt. Never came back. Doesn't mean he would have continued at that pace but he was on pace for 190 yards in the game. ISU had a 47 yard FG blocked when they were up 7-0.

It was 28-10 at the half. Second half begins with

-ISU goes 13 plays 64 yards, interception on 4th and 3 from the UCD 16

Davis got TDs on the next two drives to close it out.

Defensively, ISU couldn't stop the Davis offense. 6 TD drives and only 2 drives were 3 and out. And you can say Davis had a bend and don't break defense, but if ISU manages a TD on that first drive, it's 28-17 and maybe they kick FGs on the next two. Then it's 28-23. Or maybe 28-20 if they go for the TD on the second one since it's the 4th quarter.

I agree Davis was the better team that day. But yeah, much closer game than the score indicated.

IIRC, Illinois St moved the ball well on us last year but were forced to go for it on 4th down because we were ahead. Drives where they would have taken 3 had he score been closer ended up with 0. Plus I believe your RB got off to a hot start, got hurt and couldn’t return.

The gap in skill between the two teams definitely wasnt 30 points.

Nova being at 12.8% whereas UCD and Illinois St are a combined 3.9% is nuts. One of the two of us is guaranteed to be in the semifinals whereas Nova has to beat the team that has a 29.7% chance to win the title (according to Opta) just to make the semis. Massey and Sagarin have the three teams as all pretty similar. Seems to me that both us and Illinois St should have better odds than Nova for the simple fact that it's not a lock either of us has to face Tarleton, who is the best team remaining on our side of the bracket.

Montana St seems a bit high too considering their semifinal game will be a tough one if they beat SFA. But them and Tarleton are rightly the two favorites.

I'll take 3 more Pinnick-led wins this year and then he can go play wherever he wants next year.

Just got my tickets. Got my parents to drive up and go to the game also.

Illinois St's only road loss this year was at Oklahoma. They lost to NDSt, Youngstown and Southern Illinois all at home.

On the road they South Dakota and South Dakota St in conference, then won at SE Louisiana and NDSt in the playoffs.

It was definitely cold but at least it wasn't windy. That would have been much worse.

They announced at the end of the game tickets go on sale tomorrow so I would hope that's for everybody and not just season ticket holders. We're still a week out and it shows a high of 54, partly sunny and no rain in the forecast so hopefully with the earlier game we can get more people out.

Since they started seeding the top-8 in 2013, we've never had 4 of the top 8 lose in the first game. We've already had 3 lose today. Let's hope that's the end of the upsets. The seeded teams have dominated recently (30 of 32 advanced the past four seasons). From 2013-2019, 5 of the 7 years saw 3 of the top-8 seeds lose.
