I liked this game a lot better when we were up 16.
  • WBB: 2024 Big West Tournament
Yep. If we make it I assume we'll be a 15 or 16 seed anyway so style points are irrelevant here. Winning each game by 20 or by 1 gets us to the same point.
  • WBB: 2024 Big West Tournament
Yeah, not a great end to the quarter. Especially having the ball with 11 seconds left and letting Hawaii get a steal and a 3 pointer at the buzzer. If just that doesn't happen, we're still up 6 which feels much better.

UCD's shooting splits are wild. They're 12-38 shooting overall and 9-18 from 3, which means they're 3-20 inside the arc.

Yep. Survive and advance. You'd obviously love to win pretty, but winning is all that matters at this point.

Looks like they switched the rules this year on the NIT so they're not guaranteeing spots to any conferences besides the big 6. So in he past, if you were the regular season champ but didn't win the conference tournament, you were guaranteed a spot in the NIT. So I'm guessing it's unlikely we get a spot in the NIT unfortunately, which stinks.

Cal Poly shooting 2-18 so far today. I'm not opposed to that continuing for 4 quarters.

Anyone know the tiebreakers? On the women's side, UCR, CP and UCD are all 12-7 and one of the three will get stuck as the 5 seed and therefore have to play an extra game in the tournament. If it's H2H, UCD would lose a 3-way tiebreaker as they're 1-3. They'd also lose H2H straight up to Poly since Poly swept the season series. But I don't know what would happen if they finished tied with UCR since the two teams split the series.

Hopefully UCD wins this weekend and at least one of the other two loses to make that moot.

Some pretty crazy parity this year. Two teams at 10-3 in conference and three others at 9-4. Usually by this point 1-3 teams have sort of separated themselves from the pack. Like on the men's side it seems like Irvine, Davis and San Diego are the top three and the winner likely comes from one of those.

Iowa's punter set the record for most punting yards this year.

Their offense was hilariously bad. Prior to the year the OC (who is the HC's son) had his contract amended to say that if Iowa didn't average 25 ppg this year, he'd get fired. Midway through the year they weren't close to that and the school announced he wouldn't be back in 2024. Iowa managed to win games this year where they scored 15, 10, 15 and 13 points. In 10 of their 14 games they scored 20 points or less. They were shutout 3 times.

Despite that, Iowa still managed to win the Big 10 West which meant they got to play Michigan. The betting line for Iowa's team total in that game was 6.5, meaning the bookmakers weren't sure they'd get a TD. For the first half, their team total was 0.5 points. For reference, when Portland State played Oregon this year, the spread was 48 and total was 64.5. That means the projected score was 56-8. So the books expected Iowa to do as well offensively against Michigan (again, in a conference championship game) as Portland St against Oregon. To the surprise of nobody, Iowa didn't score in that game.

There are no college football games this Saturday. There are two NFL games (1:30 and 5:15). On Sunday, there are 14 NFL games. So it makes total sense that the FCS would choose to have their title game on Sunday at 11 a.m. Like why not do it on Saturday? I'm sure there's some overlap between people who watch the NFL and would also watch the FCS game. Just seems like a stupid choice to hold it on Sunday against the NFL.

Generally speaking, I don't mind gimmick plays. I just think it's a bad idea to throw the ball with a non-QB when if you don't complete the pass, you lose. Plus that play they ran, I'm sure he could have run it if it was open, but there was one guy in the end zone to throw the ball to. Not great! Because something happens and that one guy, let's say, falls down (which he did!), now you're out of options. Run the gimmick play in a tie game. Run it if you're up 5 and you want to go up 7. But when I need a 2 point to keep the game going, I'm going to call my best play. And there's no chance that was one of NDSt's best plays.
  • 2023-24 FCS Playoffs
What a dumb call. 2nd OT, NDSt runs it right down Montana’s throat for a TD on 3 plays. Then for the 2 point conversion they do a gimmick formation with all the linemen split out to either sideline except the center, they hand the ball to a WR and have him throw it. Just run the damn ball again!

Unsurprisingly this semifinal is a close one.

That's one heck of an ass kicking.

    This for sure.

I do think when the Covid year thing passes it will easy up a bit. Rather than 5/6 years worth of kids in college, you'll have 4/5. As for the transferring, I wouldn't mind allowing kids a one time transfer without sitting out. But if you want to transfer a second time, you have to sit out a year. One exception would be if the head coach leaves, then if you want to leave you don't have to sit out a year.

The Albany thing is pretty crazy. Prior to this year they were 2-3 all time in the playoffs. They made it in 1977 (in D III) and then in 2011 and 2019 in FCS. They've now won 11 games this year. They've only done that once ever and only won 10+ games twice in their history. Like our 2018 season seems like an anomaly but we at least had a DII history. Albany has no history and all of a sudden they're in the semis.

Thanks for the info. If he became a Texas A&M fan, he could just keep the same team nickname. Would only have to worry about switching colors.

And yeah, with how big of a fan he seemed to be, I would have thought he'd stick with following UCD, even from afar.

This seems as good a place as any, but whatever happened to aggie6thman? He used to be as active as anyone. I'm hit or miss on how often I come to the site so I may have missed if he left for a particular reason.

I think the selection was less "we need to keep Florida State out" and more "we need to get Bama in there". Because Texas has a solid resume and convincingly beat Bama in Tuscaloosa, they couldn't justify taking Bama over Texas. So Florida State was the convenient solution. I think if Georgia had beaten Alabama on Saturday, they would have taken the four undefeated teams and Texas gets left out.
