Sounds like a team ready to transition to FBS.

In a vacuum, nothing wrong with getting handled by South Dakota St. But with all the talk about Sac St the past few months, they needed a better showing than this.

Makes a little more sense when I look at the map. You don't realize how far west the atlantic coast angles. So Alabama and Maine both being East Coach time would be kind of crazy.

Western Alabama is due south of Chicago, which is Central Time.
  • Mercer - In-Game Play-By-Play Thread
I would have bet a lot of money that Alabama was eastern time.
  • Sac State's bid for the Pac 12 Thread
For sure. Didn't mean to make it seem like their football and basketball teams will fail. They certainly could be successful. It was more saying that they're better set up to make the transition than any other team is ridiculous.

James Madison made the playoffs 8 straight years from 14-21, won a national title and made two other title games (they were the only team from 2011-2019 to knock off NDST in the playoffs). Sam Houston St made the playoffs each year from 11-17, losing in the title game twice and making the semis three other times. They won the title in the 2021 spring season. Those two teams were set up to transition. Sac St is not those teams.

I forgot Mullin coached St. Johns. But as I was typing the Bibby thing, Ewing was definitely on my mind.
  • Sac State's bid for the Pac 12 Thread
Man his statement is so stupid.

They're as prepared as any team in the country to move from FCS to FBS? What because of a little money and a good (FCS) recruiting class? That's crazy. You're not James Madison. You're not Sam Houston St.

They've performed extremely well in FCS in recent years? You had 3 good seasons with a coach who is no longer there. Prior to Taylor, the most wins Sac State had in an FCS football season was 7. If Taylor was still there you could make an argument that this success would continue. Maybe the new guy is legit. But he hasn't coached a game there yet. Oh, and they couldn't even make an FCS semifinal with Taylor. They went 1-3 in the playoffs, all at home, and made one QF.

Best recruiting class in the country? Sure in FCS. Not to mention that recruiting rankings are far from perfect and get more imprecise the further down you go.

Mike Bibby is their head coach. Cool. I know Deion Sanders is a success story but lets not act like a successful former player automatically makes a great coach and that it's anywhere close to a sure thing he's going to have success there. "We have an NBA star as our head basketball coach" is not a good justification for your football team to go to FBS. I can say the same thing about Shaq as the GM.
  • Post-Season for the Big West
Man, Irvine had what amounted to a layup to win in at the buzzer and the guy missed. Man that hurts.
  • Looking forward to 2025
I don't follow super closely but was it reported before that Larison had ankle surgery? I just assumed it was a badly sprained ankle but it must have been worse than that to require surgery.
  • Post-Season for the Big West
Hopefully never but I'm sure it will at some point. Got to make more money by whatever means necessary!

I'm not exactly sure why you think I'm "defend(ing) the board". When movielover comes in with his completely unnecessary right wing propaganda and transphobia - which is exactly what his post from the Stanford message board one, bold text and all, was - yes, I'm going to respond and call him out on it.
  • Troy Taylor bullied female staff at Stanford
As for Taylor, the sad truth of the matter is had he been successful, they very likely wouldn't have fired him. If he did what he is accused of doing, he definitely deserved to be fired. They did it because he went 3-9 both years.

Apologies for not living online and checking my email notifications all night to see if someone responded to my post.

Woke = whatever certain people don't like at the momentBaseballAtDobbins

The Right uses it almost exclusively in a negative context as a response for when anyone calls them or their policies discriminatory in some way.

I'm glad Trump is taking aim at DEI programsyolohw

Sorry but this undermines your whole argument. What Trump is doing with this is solely to keep straight white men in positions of power and to exclude anyone else.

You can always find exceptions to the rule and with 8 billion people in the world, there are plenty of them. But I would say more people than not fall under what I said in that they do their best to treat people fairly no matter what.

Now what you say (or are accused of saying, even if you didn't) is weaponized more than ever. It's 1000 times worse to be accused of being a racist or a homophobe than it is to be a poor worker.yolohw

This is gibberish. I've never been accused of being a racist or a homophobe. Want to know why? I don't say anything racist and I don't say anything homophobic. Because I try my best to be a nice person. Generally speaking, the people who are accused of being racist or homophobic very likely, on more than one occasions said something racist or homophobic. Don't be an asshole and you won't be accused of being an asshole.

As for movielover, he didn't oversimplify anything. He a right wing lunatic and meant exactly what he said.

We're not in "woke times". We're in "treat people fairly, equally, and courteously regardless of race, gender or sexuality" times.
  • WBB: Big West Tournament Championship: UC San Diego (19-15, 13-7) vs. UC Davis (21-11, 13-7), Saturd
Four finals losses in the last nine seasons. Two tourney appearances isn’t bad by any means but it really feels like we should have had 3 or 4 at least in that span.
  • Other Big West Games and Standings
It's from this weeks coaches poll. UCSD got votes in the AP and Coaches Top -25.

When you mean to vote (I assume) for UC San Diego and instead vote for UC Davis...

Kind of funny that there's two crappy teams that most of the average teams have beaten up on. Davis, Northridge and Hawaii all beat both of the bad teams. Santa Barbara, Long Beach and Riverside each beat one of them. That's one positive for Bakersfield as they haven't played either one yet. Will be interesting to see how those middle teams shake out.
  • Playoff Talk 2024
I don’t remember if all the games were on ESPN+ in years past.

This year there were game available on network TV though. The final, both semis and I believe 2 of the QF as well. That might not be what you meant though.
