Would love an Idaho State upset

I have mixed feelings about an Idaho State upset if UNLV eventually becomes our future conference mate.

The whole thing is likely to break up and realign again before that happens. UNLV is a much more talented version of Sac right now.

Portland State facilities are a tragedy

Tough day for PSU. While I certainly want us to win, it feels like success has eluded Portland and Northern Colorado for a long time, which has to impact recruiting and attendance.

@AggieFinn interestingly, Hillsboro Stadium is very similar to what is proposed at Cal Expo… an offsite, one-sided facility.

when I played, out games vs Northridge State were Devonshire Downs, an old horse track. One set of bleachers with a wide track between that and the field. Horrible lighting (maybe horses have better night vision than me). What a dump

a better example would be if Sac State played in Roseville. About the same distance and time and in the suburbs. At least you can take light rail to Golden 1.

I think he’s referring to the stadium layout not location. That’s another horrible aspect to Viking stadium - the location.

my trips to PSU were to Providence Park, which was a different kind of dump because it was a baseball stadium. They let the band sleep on the floor of their wrestling room (smelled great, super sanitary, but it was free). I seem to remember realizing too late that towels were not provided in the showers. Only make that mistake once!

is the Cal Expo plan for a single grandstand? That doesn’t seem enough if their goal is the largest concert venue in the Central Valley

I don’t think there is a plan because it isn’t real. But I would think economics would be difficult to renovate the existing grandstand plus duplicate it on the other side at a better value than a new build on campus. Live Nation (Ticketmaster) owns the 20,000 seat amphitheater north of Sac. They would be unlikely to promote outdoor shows that size at Cal Expo and split revenue. And big time shows are still going to Levi’s. There’s limited promoter interest in facilities between those sizes.
