Interesting... 3 star DB/WR Evan Williams has updated his 247 profile and has Davis listed as "warm" along with Air Force, Columbia, Montana State, and Princeton. Offers that were left as "cool" were Dartmouth, Harvard, Holy Cross, Illinois, Portland State, and San Diego.
Very interesting article today in the Washington Post that the NFL has now so devalued the position of running back that the top HS running back in the country will switch to LB in college. Reason: very short playing life. Expendibility. Great surprising read!
3 star DB/WR/RB Terrell Hayward stated in a podcast (that has been retweeted on his twitter page) that the schools that are standing out most to him right now are UC Davis, Air Force, and Eastern Washington. He currently has 10 offers.
Early Signing Day - Dec 19th - approaches, from 247 Sports.
"Believe it or not, college football’s second-ever Early Signing Period (Dec. 19-21) is now just a month away. While the first Wednesday in February will always have a special place in our hearts, this period is essentially the new signing day — last year, 80 percent of committed prospects signed, and 65 percent of the entire class came off the board."
After LeVeon Bell got cold shouldered, and James Connor stepping in nicely...it's clear the big bucks don't go to the runners anymore. Must catch ball well out of the backfield, must block
A lot of teams are doing two tight end stuff and not just for power running, I read an interview from last year that UNI sometimes goes from two tight ends to 4 wide receiver sets with the same personnel, and U Washington uses a lot of two tight end.
Well he absolutely DESTROYED his league. 4500+ passing yards, 65% completions, 60 touchdowns, only 3 interceptions, almost 1000 yards rushing... the kid did it all in high school. Just sounds like he was severely under recruited. When college recruiters are saying he's a potential 5 star guy if he was a couple inches taller... yeah I'll take that type of talent here any day. Jake is proving it now that you don't need to be the biggest guy to be successful.
Here's Tompkins highlights from the regular season... kids got a little Russell Wilson in him. http://www.hudl.com/v/2AmXBV
I think another guy we should be keeping our eye on is 3 star LB Jhasi Wilson. He has a bunch of offers, but he's really only retweeting and liking stuff related to UC Davis football, not so much other programs.
Great job keeping track of all this activity. I noticed last year that we almost never lose a player on your list to an FCS school, and that seems to be the case so far.
I watched the local Fox story on Trent Tompkins. This is the perfect Plough/Hawkins guy.
A few thoughts:
-A guy who doesn't try to win, he's just a winner.
-Perfect Aggie: overlooked, "too small," sharp, motivated.
-Been running an offense for 3 years. Smart kid.
-He doesn't wrap the laces when throwing (small hands?). I wonder if Plough/Hawkins change this?
-WHEELS
-Hawkins/Plough/Young/Speckman are so progressive on offense, I could honestly see this guy in starting lineup as a true frosh. in the backfield WITH Maier and RB1, running AND throwing bootleg passes. Sounds nuts, but I can see it now. Completely unstoppable.
Your idea of have someone like Tompkins in the backfield with Maier and all the crazy options it could create is a wild but brilliant idea! I love to see something as creative as that.
