This whole thing feels like Chappelle riffing as Rick James - - like there's not much of a plan, but you gotta keep the energy up and get something great out of it. An old viking once said, "Luck, often enough will save a man, if his courage hold." This whole leap before you look approach is a little nuts in my mind, and it's not to say they haven't done much looking, because clearly they are recruiting coaches and players and donations to this entire effort in a big way, but it's interesting to watch and it'll be more interesting to see what happens!

Some Sac fan on this board said the pac x was a done deal and look for a major announcement soon. That obviously never materialized. Standing back and looking at this entire scenario is sort of comical. I couldn’t make this stuff up if i tried.

Why not play at Hughes Stadium? Notre Dame will fill it. s/

Some of the chatter among the Hornet “insiders” is that the PAC12 and MWC both wanted them so bad but were giving them lowball offers and this indy move is because Wood knows their real value and the PAC12 will come crawling back in a couple years with a big boy offer.

I mean, I guess you never know but it seems closer to the delusion end of the spectrum of possibilities. I guess only time will tell, but I have to imagine that if this doesn't work out Dr. Woods is going to be up a creek without a paddle.

how many “PAC12” (current or former) presidents and chancellors defend themselves on twitter/x to relative nobodies with 2000 followers when they post their doubts? Sorry but this clown should focus on running a university and be less concerned about this “mine-is-too-bigger-than-yours” posturing on social media. it won’t. Many schools including sac and our own school/UCD made it clear that athletic funding will be completely separate from general funding. So if sac did happen to fail, they still have their new student athletic fees to fall back to, but would have to trim cost down such as cutting football completely along with some other programs. Many state CA schools are already trimming their athletic costs/programs this year. Sac almost cut football a few years ago but were able to make it work and are now gambling big. We will see if it pays out. “FBS or bust”

The athletic departments at both schools do rely on contributions from the general fund to survive.

@Aggie Cisco Florida resident here. Regarding the video, FAMU, UCF, and USF not great analogues for Sac State. Football in the southeast has a different level of public and private support, and despite talking their way into a P4 conference, UCF still struggles for political relevance against the old guard Florida, Florida State, and Miami. Even when they are all bad. Though USF has kind of a trashy fan base and also wears green, so that part tracks.

you are right a few years was wrong. I don’t know about what was happening 30 years ago. But I was referring to their athletic dept woes in 2003 - 2006 (which is around 20 years so maybe you were referring to then as well). But they gambled on theirselves then and it worked out. Hopefully it does again. We do hope they succeed and that we continue our rivalry. I hope they do find a home within the PAC or MW. I and many other just voice our concerns and many including myself do not fully trust Dr Wood who seems to always make it about him self and would respond and argue with random people in X.

I agree. There is no true analogy to what is happening now. The college football world seems to be evolving so fast the past 1-2 years.
