Sac may have gotten out over their skis with their Pac-12 dreams and their sudden discourteous flight from the Big Sky, but if Sac football withers couldn't the other sports remain in the Big West?
Such a poor decision to ditch the Big Sky prematurely.
I think it's funny how quicky they were replaced, and how impossible it is for them to come back.
Was listening to KHTK on drive up to mountains and they had Mark Orr on concerning the signing of MOU with Cal Expo to explore feasibility and potential move forward. Should be interesting to see what happens.
Good old Carmichael Dave was looking ahead to the days when Sac will be a top 10 FBS team, snd biggest story on the nation. I fear for current FCS schools, like us, Sac and the northern powers, that ship set sail awhile back. The top conferences after going to see fit that they control the playoffs and TV.
If you want to make an impact, put the cash in basketball. I’d bet on Grand Canyon making the final four before any current FCS makes the FBS playoffs regardless of how much it expands
We certainly have a storied and proud football history and I'm excited about the growth of the program and the direction we're heading. However, I've always felt that basketball is the sport that we could get the most return for the investment...many fewer scholarships and a much less expensive sport considering equipment, travel and the number of coaches necessary etc etc.
I think we are currently seeing the Athletic Department making a significant push in basketball and gearing up for MWC play in 2026. Hopefully, we can be relatively competitive in the MWC early on against bigger name programs. I think we'll see a dramatic increase in our fan base if that happens.
exactly. The blue bloods of the Big 10 and SEC are trying to consolidate power and TV rights to push the ACC and Big 12 to the side, let alone leave any crumbs for the G5 conferences. They don’t want more mouths to feed and they don’t want anyone outside their club to be more competitive than planned. My guess is that eventually there may be a secondary playoff tournament akin to the NIT if there isn’t a more dramatic split in divisions.
Was listening to their afternoon guy who was at touting the stadium while the engineer was bringing up a lot of the head scratching questions we have. Engineer is Kyle Ledbetter who is an Aggie graduate so he got labeled a ‘hater’.
I guess my question is what’s the expected lifetime of this stadium? The original on campus vision seemed on the smaller size of FBS but looked like a ‘long term’ home. This looks and feels like a temporary home, until they can’t build a permanent one. I can’t imagine a long term FBS vision is a one sided stadium. Unless you’re San Jose State.
Stepping up your athletic program should be an scross-the-board effort. It is not just one or two sports, but all of the sports that would face tougher competition, even in a diluted Pac-X conference. This past weekend Sac's men's cross country team finished 7th of 14 teams in a meet at USF. Their women finished 6th of 13 at the same event. Nothing spectacular there, however those were the best perfomances by Hornet teams over the past weekend. Football is 0-1 after losing to South Dakota State, 20-3, (in a game that was not nearly as close as the score indicated). Volleyball is 0-3 after finishing last in their own tournament. Against three opponents they won a total of two sets. Men's soccer lost to Santa Clara, 3-0, and is currenty 0-3-1. Women's soccer lost to Fresno State, 2-0, but is currently the winningest team at Sac with a 2-3 record. It is early in the season and things can certainly get better. They can't get much worse.
Going to be quite the pissing contest between these two this week in the media.
Sac State is despondent. Nevada has lost 32-39 games.............and Lake Tahoe apparently.
