In their opening games, only four Big West teams lost. Long Beach to perennial NCAA tourney team San Diego State and the rest to (former) Pac 12 teams, with Hawaii losing at Eugene by only 60-59. On the other hand, all the wins came against lower division opponents. Clearly too early to tell, but watch out for Hawaii.
UCI upset by Cal Baptist 61-69 on Friday, but overall the Big West is doing fairly well. On Saturday, Cal Poly went up to Seattle and upset Seattle U 73-71. Aside from those two games, the teams you would expect to win are winning (UCSB, UCSD). Overall the conference is 14-8 so far. I'm sure Gauchofreg will have much to say about the Big West in this, the last season that the Ags are in it.
The Aggies are one of five Big west teams who are undefeated or have only one loss. The league is shaping as expected with UCSD and UCSB both at 4-0. Hawaii is looking very strong this year as well with their only loss being a narrow one to Oregon in Eugene. I don't want to call UC Davis a "dark horse" (with apologies to Gunrock), but preseason polls have us finishing 6th.
