I mean, you can't really justify keeping a coach with an overall record of 38-64... That being said, Portland State seems like the kind of place that most coaches, even outstanding coaches, would struggle to find sustained success. Just seems like very little support from the university and community as a whole.

At this point, Portland State is a place for the tinkerers, dreamers and mad scientists. They aren't the program they once were - there coach has to be a blind optimist... and they have the worst home stadium in FCS or at least, the Big Sky...the feel of that place in Hillsboro is high school at best - stands on one side, not even downtown...felt so different when they played on Morrison Street.

by “school they once were” do you mean the early 90s when they were relevant in D2? But yes, tough market—commuter school and for sure second fiddle in the market to O and OSU, even though neither is in Portland.

There was a time where Portland State recruited like crazy, Tim Walsh's teams had a ton of talent from '93 to '06...there was a time where Portland State guys were playing in the NFL. That's all gone now, they canceled their football program once before - and when they did it they had way less reason to do it then than they do now, but thankfully they're giving that Portland area some college football that isn't in Eugene or Corvallis. Wish it was a better situation for them.

Again given his overall record I'm not surprised, though I felt like you guys were closer to turning it around this season than in the last couple. Looks like there's going to be a good amount of turnover in the conference.

Ouch. They played some top teams well, losing to Portland State was one outlier.

Man, that's a bummer. It felt like they were really turning a corner and were much more competitive this season.

Troy Taylor is available, but seeing it ended ugly at Stanford and our new AD is from Stanford I doubt it.

You had a tough schedule and still competed well. Think his fate would be different if you beat PSU?

Possibly. That was a huge loss. PSU finished 0-11 in all their other games.

I'm shocked that Wulff got fired. He seemed to have things together this year.

This one is a head scratcher for me. Overall, CP has become a tough game again. Things seemed to be moving in the right direction. Starting over seems like a bad idea.

Cal is actually a scenario I could see Plough going for…..but hopefully not this go-around.

I feel like he will be considered but not the top candidate yet. I think they will go for a top G5 coach because this is make or break for them.

Moves between Davis and Berkeley seem to happen often within the coaching staff.

The interesting thing is if Plough does get poached this year, do you pay up to get Hawk Jr back in Davis? They really like hiring former Aggies.

Does he count as a former Aggie? He didn't go to UCD.

It's possible he'll get a look, but it's a thin resume for as big a job as Cal. Two years of relatively impressive success at FCS level, but no record of building a dominant, championship program. There are other candidates who have more experience at the higher, G5 level and other hotshot coordinators from the P5 level who will have a leg up.

Obviously this is not an official source in any capacity, but that would be a big loss of MSU. I would have to imagine he poaches a lot of players if he were to leave.

Plough not going anywhere anytime soon

I don't think Coach Plough would want to raise his kids in Berkeley. Think about it, Davis is the perfect spot for him. The university is top notch. Its in a great small California town. He is actively building something that could if things fall his way become bigger than Cal or Stanford football. I think he stays and I see him being very successful here as we transition to the FBS.

For a 2M+ a year contract, I’ll raise my kids in Watts lol Cal’s coaching opening is absolutely a threat.

If he can 10x his salary, yes he should obviously go
