- can stay in Sac as the savior, or take another shot at FBS in 5 years

I don't think his mentor would kick them at this time, this hurts good people, alums, players in Sacramento, and the community. If Coach Plough posted that.

I don't really feel bad for any of the people who profited from this mess, coaches or players. This should be an example for the entire NCAA of what not to do.

I can see Taylor taking it. Maybe his only way back into coaching. But without a full schedule, I think even he may wait to see.

Saying "saves the program" is a lot easier said than done at this stage in the game. They have no conference, no schedule, and now a history of administration that fails to follow through on pretty much any and all promises. Was Taylor an excellent coach for Sac in his previous stint? Yes absolutely, but the dynamics of the job have changed so significantly since he last held it. I'm not sure how you, as a coach, sell that program to recruits now unless Wood bows out.

We don't know if there is an offer of a conference, or games ready to ink. Does Sac State get $1.5M from Colorado for poaching Marion? If so, that pays for a few games, but could be a road-heavy schedule. TT needs the inside scoop.

My understanding is that most coaching hiring contracts include a clause that eliminates the obligation to pay off a departing coach for their remaining years if they are hired by another team for their same salary. So,my bet would be that sac has little or nothing to lose with Marion’s departure. But I would be surprised if TT decided to take the job because of the serious baggage the administration has created for any new coach to try and untangle. Plainly said, the sac administration has no credibility at all at this point. And remember, TT probably got a huge severance package from Stanford when he was fired that he, too, would lose if he took a sac offer. Sac administration has put the entire football program in dire straits by its gross mismanagement if not incompetence. TT kwoss

Wood told The Bee on Friday afternoon that he wished Marion well, and that it simply came down to Colorado offering much more salary money than Sac State could afford.

Wood said in a phone interview, “It’s been overwhelming with the amount of people who have reached out (about the opening). The No. 1 thing we need is someone who has been a winning head coach, and someone who is committed to staying for at least three years. In today’s world, I can’t expect someone to commit for longer than that. I’d be surprised if we don’t announce a hire by the end of next week.”

I won't even watch it. But yeah, the guy seriously needs to be held accountable by the local media at this point.

The Sac board hates any kind of Sac Bee op-ed or local news scrutiny, yet they express dissent toward Wood on their board. Weird.

Well, since that was me, here you go. Dr. Woods should be held accountable by the local media. He has made promises best not uttered. I have been highly critical of his public ineptness at managing expectations.

Earlier this year, the local media gave him a relatively free pass on asking the tough follow-up questions. But the growing missteps left no alternatives. I give him credit for doing an almost hour-long interview with KCRA, an apparent attempt to do some damage control.

As for LeBron Antonio Hill, the opinion writer, he’s been overwhelmingly negative. And, those are his opinions, but his starting point leads him to that outcome. His priorities and vision for the university seem to clash or are not in sync with what Woods is trying to do. His calling out the non-deliverables? Absolutely. I wonder if his last op-ed would have been written differently if he had done the work Brandi did in the interview with Woods.

Also, the Bee ran an upperclassman's critical op-ed, but he doesn't speak for the entire student body, and they should run a counter-opinion by another student.

Woods does deserve credit for getting the student fees locked in to support athletics, and for improving the basketball venue, hopefully a short-term fix.

As for the future, who knows? Hopefully, not a bust.
