I grew up on the New Mecca Cafe in Pittsburg, CA. Hard to top. From their bio :
‘ The restaurant became a regular clubhouse caterer for the Oakland Athletics and the San Francisco Giants, and even provided food for players and staff at the MLB All-Star Games when they were in The City ('84) and in Oakland ('87)! Having also served food for the 49ers and Golden State Warriors,’
The Chilaquiles there are like nothing I’ve ever had anywhere else
Will have to try that dish, ate in the old section once. The service was great, they even brought out a sample of a dish a friend was considering. Some claim the food has changed.
Date Night, five stars, Michelin Bib Gourmand-rated Bombera in the Diamond District of Oakland. Elevated Mexican. Duck carnitas were amazing, shrimp tacos too. Homemade tortillas, Chez Panisse-trained founder. Amazing building (former old firehouse), bright, colorful. Smoked trout tostadas more like chips w trout, not big enough from my viewpoint.
Mac's Old House in Antioch reopened, complete remodel.
