This article is about Michigan's controversial win over Western Michigan yesterday and it focuses on the growing disparity and "unfair influence" of the wealthiest college football programs:

Michigan’s controversial win adds to the nagging feeling college football just isn’t fair

Apparently, the Big House is the land where time stands still, where clocks melt like a Salvador Dalí painting and Deloreans wind back the minute hand just enough for the home team to get another chance.

It’s where games end but somehow continue, where football takes 60 minutes and one second and days are 24 hours and one second. Where teams already afforded every advantage are now given the gift of imaginary time.

That is the real travesty in Western Michigan’s 13-12 “loss” to Michigan.

The Broncos seemed to have pulled off the biggest win in school history only for the official to add one second back on the clock for one last play, in which Michigan completed a Hail Mary pass for the win.

The MAC has filed an official complaint asking the NCAA to overturn Michigan's controversial win over Western Michigan 13-12.

According to the MAC’s letter to the NCAA, the established protocol for what was supposed to happen in a replay review was not followed.

“Rather than relying upon the designated game clock displayed on the program feed, the Big Ten replay crew relied upon a separate clock embedded within its replay system. The two clock feeds were not synchronized,” the letter states.

“The game clock displayed on the program feed showed that the clock had expired. The clock embedded within the replay system, however, showed time remaining. Despite the protocol expressly requiring replay officials to rely solely upon the game clock displayed on the program feed, the replay crew utilized the unsynchronized replay-system clock and restored time to the game clock.”

That extra second allowed for one more play to be called. Underwood’s second heaved prayer resulted in a touchdown, handing Michigan an unlikely win.

NCAA clarification, if I'm reading right, seems to make a case for WMU (use the broadcast's feed of the official stadium clock for replay purposes if it's accurate, or if not use the broadcast's graphic showing the clock, but either way it points the replay booth to use what the viewers at home see).

I mean I doubt the game will be overturned and I'm not sure it's a good thing for the sport if it can be, but at least all this probably helps WMU's playoff bid if they finish with 1 loss
