No kidding. And as a consolation prize we have the Bren Center, a 3/4 complete building, looking great on ESPNU. Davis is what, 4 seating replacements into the Rec Hall era at this point and none of them have been well designed. Meanwhile planning continues for a $19 million driving range half way to Dixon.

I wonder how many points CSUN got in the paint, including the free throws they made after an Aggie foul on the shot? The interior defense was disgraceful. I'm guessing that it was well over 40 because of their 84 points, 30 came on long distance and they hardly shot any mid range Js. So 30 points on layups and 10 on free throws.

That was horrendous. The offense was stagnant. It was dribble and pass around the perimeter and do absolutely nothing. Or just shoot a 3.

My problem with Les’s offense is we do not get the ball in the post at all. Even a touch to get it to go back outside would be helpful. Everything was a challenge on offense and everything was super easy for CSUN.

Sevilla was definitely hurt this game. Left wrist and then was limping towards the end.

Nothing on offense felt like it had a purpose. There is so much pressure on Nico. He’s so important to this team and I think he’s hurt as well. But when he has to come out for either a breather or foul trouble, we have a glaring weakness on both ends of the court. We live and die by Nico.

Yeah, Niko is the anchor. The veteran guy who plays hard and smart. This team seems like a jekyl and hyde. Beat better teams then lose to dogs.

We shot 55% overall in the first half including 56% from 3 but couldn't stop the Matadors and build a lead. Then we went cold and only shot 29% overall including just 10% from 3 in the second half. We faded big time in the second half just like we did against UCSD.

We struggle to defend in the paint since Niko is our only big who is a consistently strong defender down low. Cooper is a good defender but he's undersized going up against bigger players in the paint. Chapelle and Suljanovic are both more comfortable on the perimeter and Noudjihidi appears to be red-shirting so defending in the paint is pretty much entirely on Niko.

Like DrMike noted, we got outscored 52-26 in the paint and 26 of those points were off of fast breaks. The Matadors had 30 assists!

    Post-game comments from Les:

“You score 78 points on the road, that ought to be enough to win,” said Aggie head coach Jim Les.

“I didn’t think our resistance or our competitiveness was very good in the second half. The hungrier, more aggressive team won that game. We should have had a 10 or 15 point lead in the first half, but we let them back into the game.”

I don't know if that's the answer. It is frustrating, however, how the program seems to be stuck in neutral and, with the move to the Mountain West next year, we could be in for a rough go.

that last sentence summed up my thoughts - we had a chance to really go up big, but let them back in with weak inside defense. And to continue my harp, the potential 5 point swing in the last 29 seconds of the half really hurt. We were on a 8-0 run with the ball and 20 seconds left. Did the clear out and were left with a very difficult driving shot by Wilson - miss, snd they hit a mid court shot at the buzzer. We don’t do a great job with getting a shot on s last possession - that sequence gave them life. Of course, when you get outscored by 20+ in the second half, it’s probably moot…but…symbolic of not being able to put them away

that’s kinda my point. I think the program has just been kinda good? Ish? For a while and Les just seems to make comments and stuff that basically is summed up as “we need to have more fire in how we play” but I just think moving into a new conference we need new energy in the building. It seems like Les is a nice guy and likes Davis but it’s not like we have been AMAZING during his tenure, had some great years but also have just been mediocre in the past few and I think a younger coach would be a good move.

We seem to play to the level of or opponents no matter how good or bad they are. We just don't pull away from teams when we have a chance and a 8 or more point lead often evaporates quickly.

This team is certainly hard to figure out. We know they can play outstanding defense because we saw it against Irvine. They say that defense travels well and can be a consistent strength. It was no surprise that the shooting cooled off in the second half simply by the law of averages after a hot opening. When the offense struggles it seems that the defense would strengthen, but ours collapsed. I don't think it had anything to do with the strategy, so I don't blame the coaching. I just saw a lack of effort. They let the Matadors inside too easily then often fouled when they were shooting from there.
