We need to shore-up some things with our play action protection... we've been hurried by Power pull protections, then we adjusted to a Zone protection with a rat killer vs. MSU and got harassed at times by their DL finishing plays. Sac is one of the top QB Sack outfits in the Big Sky, if not the country. How the Ags protect is going to be a major tipping point in the game.

I almost feel like with Pinnick's elite ability to extend the play, Plough gets greedy on pass pro, and just sends another receive out off of chip blocks. I don't think we get away with that this week. Want Pinnick protected, period, let the receivers work.

Ticket sales are going really fast. Other than pockets of premium seating on the home side, the visitor side has like 50 seats left.

Wow...Plough says that he is " proud to be a part of the last Causeway ever." So, is this true, is the Causeway Classic game between these two schools done forever?

it wouldn't surprise me if they play again at some point in a few years. Davis played them when the Ags were in the Great West.

both schools at that time were FCS. IF Sac is moving up, that adds a new wrinkle -> do they pay us?

Davis hasn't made any comment on the "talks" if there were any at all. Until we hear from Davis, I don't believe anything from Sac or this guy on X, for all internsive purposes.

Davis/Sac played all the Causeways through the time that Davis was D-II and Sac was 1AA (93-02, I think?). I don't see why that would stop now, particularly since they need games on their schedule.

edit: and Davis went 8-2. Heh.

LOL. I had the same thought. Misspelling an incorrect phrase is some solid work.

Aren’t we happy that Sac beat Idaho? Regardless of the outcome of that game we need to win next week. Now that we dropped to 15 (which is an absolute joke) in theory we want to beat a ranked team vs a non rsnked team right?

I know we were rooting for Idaho but this is actually better for our rank jump.

i think back then, there were more openings on the schedule. starting next year, we'll have 9 Big Sky game and 3 out of conference. IF SAC is planning on moving to FBS, i don't think we'll want to have 2 of our 3 OOC games be FBS games. Their situations is so chaotic i don't know how you can plan in 2027 and beyond.

I, personally, won't miss it. Never been a fan of attending Causeways

I think it would have been better for us if Sac had lost since they'd be out of the playoffs for sure. I don't think us beating a 7-5 Sac vs. a 6-6 Sac matters all that much to our seeding. Where it matters is now if Sac beats us, they get selected over us if the Big Sky only gets 3 teams.

I also think some of this is Plough’s gamesmanship - get them riled up, lose composure and take advantage of their mental mistakes

Sac isn’t ranked in the polls. They are 19 in Massey rating. Its conceivable Sac will be ranked by the Commitee, but only if they beat Davis.

I hate that Twitter take. Sac left the conference. To make the Ags change their schedule at the last minute to accommodate them is unfair. Sac should have considered it when leaving that they would abandon the Ags.

Davis is simply responding to the reality that if Sac isn’t part of the conference they are just another team. I’d personally prefer that Davis schedule one beatable FBS team, which is what Sac aspires to be, and skip the P4 games but there are other priorities, like payout and exposure in other markets. A home and home would help finance Sac more than it helps Davis because Sac has more seats. Davis isn’t obligated to make Sac’s schedule more attractive.

Listen, I would like to play Sac year in and year out too, and I think Stetson is a goofy level of competition to be playing (with no regional relevancy), but it is not a UC Davis problem that Sac State left a conference that solidified the rivalry year in and year out without a plan to join a conference/scheduling agreement that would provide stability for future schedules. Davis had scheduling figured out and planning ahead while the Sac admin rushed to leave a conference and try to move up without any confirmation they would be able to fill out a schedule. Realistically Davis and Sac will probably both be in the FBS in the future, and maybe they can figure out scheduling in the future even if Sac is FBS and Davis is still FCS (like we did when Davis was d2 and Sac was d1-aa) but acting like its a Davis problem that Sac made rash decisions that screwed up their scheduling enough that they cant fill out a schedule in the next year doesn't make sense to me.

Playing other FBS teams fulfill each of these priorities to a greater extent for Davis.

Starting next year, Sac needs Davis. Davis doesn't need Sac in the slightest.

well, I mean at the current rate of spend, Sac doesn’t have long before football hits pay dirt or goes bust, so in the event of the latter idk if they make it out next open schedule.

Also as long as the Ags are in FCS, they can slot Poly in as the rivalry #1. The one downside is that they lose an attractive home game in odd years but not as badly needed as on the Hornet side.

I think something else to your point is that he has fumbled twice in the last three games pulling up at the line of scrimmage near the sideline, looking to throw, and been walloped from behind trying to extend the play. Throw it away, run, get out of bounds. All better than a turnover or potential turnover unless its an end of game scenario or you're out of downs. Young QB, these are little things that will be gained with experience.
