UCD staff being so quiet on recruiting/transfers is equal parts frightening and encouraging

DO NOT be concerned. Davis has never been a hype machine. And Movieliver is correct about keeping things close to the best. There are recruiting staffs that dedicate personnel to stalking their rival’s prospects and commits. Best to keep things on the down low

FWIW, a former Aggie coach joins Cal.

They brought in seven announced at the regular NLI signing day. I don’t recall hearing much before that date, and we might not again. Those transfers ended up being roughly half of the defense.

Of course they’re going to fill in spots when necessary, usually with guys that can contribute right away, but I’m not surprised by a lack of news regarding their work in the portal

Came back to Davis to visit friends this weekend and found savemart to be full of Fresno state merch. I know they are a valley company but how the hell do Davis stores have more Fresno merch than the college in the town..

Cody vonAppen, defensive coordinator at Cal Poly previously, to become the special teams coordinator for the Ags. Here’s his bio from the cal poly roster.

Interesting, I mean something had to change given the overall performance of the special teams this last season. Is Chapatte going to be staying on as TE coach or is he gone?

Where did you see the change of ST coordinator?

It looks like CvA travelled a lot of the same circles that Plough did as an assistant coach...Strong ties to NAU, Boise State...

I like to see the commitment by the admin to addressing an issue by essentially adding another coaching position since Chapatte is staying. He did a nice job with the TE group given the early injuries.

Man, you have the scoop on staff moves. Same source?

Here's a great off-season topic: Aggie legend and the gutsiest play caller in the history of modern college football (see 2007 Fiesta Bowl if you're too young to remember. Arguably the best two minutes of playcalling in my lifetime) Chris Petersen named to the 2026 College Football Hall of Fame class! Way to go Coach Pete!

So apparently Ty Richardson was actually a Junior this past season. The roster had him incorrectly listed as a Grad Student. Heard from some people close to the program he had some p5/g5 interest which given his play against washington and once he was back from injury is not surprising. However, I am hearing he plans to be back at Davis next year.

That would be a huge win for the Ags. Good corners are very hard to find and DBs transfer at very high rates for whatever reason.
  • Riveraggie
    393
That is great news. This will be Richardson's fourth year in college overall, he never redshirted. He graduated from Tufts in less than two years because he was here in time for Spring practice last year. Does anyone know what graduate program he is participating in?
  • aggies413

he is an undergraduate student. He never graduated from tufts that was a mistake on the roster last year that had him listed as a grad student

    Well good news regardless.
How does an organization publish a signing day article, and two rosters over the course of a year and not catch something like that? They make roster errors so often they should ask the players to proof read their bios since the sports information department doesn't have a clue who these student athletes are.

Purgatory... Portal is closed, current Aggies probably in winter conditioning and weights, college football season officially over, still two weeks out from Signing Day, NFL final four and draft on the horizon, coaches still getting fired and hired.

Any thoughts on the expanded College Football Playoff? I like the concept, but really don't, now that I've seen it. Season is too long. Championship game played one week into the second semester at both Miami and IU. Most of the other bowl games were unwatchable. I saw one school play with their 5th and 6th string Inside Linebackers, respectively. Both walk-ons. Why are non-playoff bowl games even allowed? Should there be a Group of 5 playoff separate from the Power 4? Shorten down, then run playoffs at every level, no bowl games?

Need to ban commentators from saying where players have transferred from. I know it happened, just don't mention it, okay?

With regard to the portal and Indiana.....last night, their one WR made a big back-shoulder catch late in the 4th. Announcer mentioned how Cignetti came in and basically told the WR room 'thanks but no thanks, good luck at your next school!'...except this guy who was 'allowed' to stay and try to get better. That's, I think, something that folks don't see with transfers when coaches come in -> alot of the old guys get the boot, no matter how close they might be to completing a degree! Sac did it, Colorado did it, and there's many more. KInda sucks, but it certainly ain't gonna stop as long as schools make big leaps after they do it.

I was born and raised in Indiana until I left for the service at age 19. My mother, father and sister all graduated from IU. Basketball was always great but football was never good so, following the Hoosiers this season as they went on to win the National Championship undefeated was as exciting as it was mind-boggling. Talk about a "rags to riches" story...!
