Mayo and Sievers are redshirt freshmen.
Roster lists Pinnick as a redshirt freshmen, Mayo and Sievers are same class. Both hardly played in the regular season in their first year. Sievers played in five games last year, but playoff games don’t count.
Plough got me worried about other injuries with his comments about finding 70 guys.
Neither Nick Afato nor Matteo Perez seem to have played. Afato is listed in the starting lineup in the box score, but Sievers made the tackle on the first play. Afato was listed ahead of Sievers on the 2 deep for the game both at Porter Connors spot.
I am not into moral victories, but I do think this game shows Cal Poly might of finally turned the corner on righting what was a sinking ship for the last decade. Good luck the rest of the season. If the Mustangs do not win a Big Sky Championship I am pulling for the Aggies.
I just caught CP TD throw to Zach Jones in the back right end zone. It looks to have been about a 50-yard throw (32-yard TD). I can't recall Rodriguez or Maier making a throw like that.
I believe Wally's getting the full highlight/game here this afternoon - when it's time it'll get posted here to cap off a week of mixed emotions for the Aggie Football Program.
it feels like Wulff has them back on track through a combination of recruiting and smart use of transfers. He started in a tough spot - glad to see progress for a really good guy.
How severe did the injury to the offensive lineman look? The video stream mentioned it then had a commercial break. I’m guessing Nava as he didn’t play late,
Yup, OL play hurt all the time - I know there will be an emphasis on health this week...we need to really scheme it up against NAU and find a way to win, sounds like that game is going to be full of Aggie fans. Expecting a huge turnout.
Gutty win at SLO. Wulff has them trending upward, their team speed has greatly improved since last year. QB played out of his mind. Decent atmosphere, beautiful night, nice crowd. I told a buddy with close ties at SLO that they are vastly improved and better than Weber, especially since both are playing with backup QBs. The starter will be back for SLO at some point and makes them instantly better. The trickery and situational play calls were outstanding for the most part by Wulff and staff.
I thought Sievers played well, I noticed him making more plays than the other LB but that might have been schematics. He's going to be the Will down the stretch. Afato is pretty much backing up both ILBs at this juncture, I don't think they can afford to risk him at Fullback for a few snaps a game given how shallow the depth is at the LB position. He is exactly what you want in a FB though; add another 25-30 lbs and he'd be a real monster there. Or else find a shorter, undersized D-tackle to fill the role. TEs are too tall to do it effectively in the box and we're thin there as well.
The throw on the first Aggie TD was as impressive as I've ever seen. CP really stepped up on Saturday night, hopefully that is a preview of things to come. Pretty solid offensive performance overall. My only gripe is the way we start games. We need to find ways to avoid early 3-and-outs and be better in the first quarter but man do we finish!
