The rhode island board has me chuckling. I found
I know this is FCS football but looking through UC Davis’s schedule, I haven’t heard of 3/4 of their opponents schools. Can’t tell if they beat anyone good
to be especially funny. I guess its east vs west coast biased but Long Island University, Hampton and Bryant are not exactly much better known teams (I will admit I dont know a single person who knew who utah tech was before we played them)

Who is Rhody's version of Sac State? Providence in hoops or Brown/Bryant in Football?

I think the 7 pm start will hurt attendance. It makes for a very late drive home for fans who live quite a ways away and it will be too late for many local families with young children. It will also be very chilly and some fans will stay home just because of that. An afternoon game would have been much better for a good crowd. I hope we get at least 7000.

After reading that last post, I'm reconsidering my plans to show up on Saturday night. Sounds miserable... All valid points BlueGoldAg, especially to modern parents. My dad would've given me a jacket and a toque, $5 for snacks, and not completely stopped the truck as he dropped me off and said "meet you right here at 10 o'clock." Three hours of tackling, fighting, and yelling at kids on the lawn with a football, probably lose a shoe and/or a tooth or something. Man, the 70s were a great time to be alive.

CAA Football: Bryant is bad. Villanova looked pretty darn good to me (yes, I watched the 1st quarter vs. Harvard). New Hampshire is probably their closest competitor I would guess as far as a "quality" program and they just got beat by six scores in the first round. The CAA is not the Big Sky or Missouri Valley. Not even close.

Regarding Brown, they went 2-5 and finished in sole possession of 5th place in the mighty Ivy League, aka the SEC of non-scholarship FCS football. Brown lost to playoff speedbump Harvard by 34 on the road and by a dozen or so at home vs. the Yalies. The Bears defeated Rhode Island by a TD in a game where they threw for a ton of yards but had a couple picks and a couple sacks.

The deeper I dig, the less impressed I become with Rhode Island's season. I respect their program as traditionally being competitive, and between them, Nova, and occasionally Maine and Monmouth, they are decent, but barely among the Top 15 teams in the country. Its like comparing the Big XII to the SEC. Sac, NAU, and Idaho State probably win that conference, just like Texas, Vandy, and Tennessee could probably win the Big XII title. However, anything is possible in a one game scenario. That is why they play the game and don't listen to me or my ill-informed opinions.

My brother moved to the upper Midwest and I get pictures of snow, ice, northern lights and last years record ice storm. His grandchildren still go to school and work in these conditions.

call them. I’m not sure why the email with links are being delayed (at least for many of us) or why there no downloadable ticket in my ticket account, but phone calls seem to make it happen.

Well, my phone call didn’t work but AgAlum and BGA got theirs!

Forecast is currently in the low forties, 15% chance for rain, and 0.00 inches of precipitation.

That's very cold for my California standards, but I'll be there.

maybe someone can spill some peppermint schnapps into the hot chocolate. Festive and warms the soul. It helped in the infamous Eastern Washington fog game.

I looked up the communications team. Most of the team are new within the last year or two. Looking up state pay, idk if the pay is competitive with other universities but it is not competitive with corporate internal/external communications. May be hard to retain talent and no in-house pool to tap since we don’t offer sports admin, marketing, or journalism majors.

I saw a post on the Rhodey board, that claimed Davis' defense was rated 100th. Based on that the poster felt the game would be fun for them..
Of course that includes the Washington game, which distorts the stats. A better measure of Davis' defense is the Big Sky Conference games where Davis is second best defense in the conference in scoring defense and third best in yardage. And that is almost entirely without the Connor twins, and five of the conference games were without Ty Richardson who is playing well.

That’s life at this level. These guys generally aspire to make their way up to the FBS or NFL. The AD really needs to create a culture where it is understood that the stepping stone comes with the obligation to kick a$$ while you are here. They don’t have that mindset right now.

Chair backs on the 50 are currently available. The playoffs are always a good reminder of the limited support this program has and illustrates why expanding the stadium and/or moving up is foolish until there is a real plan in place to compete.

It seems like more of an improper management issue. It should be straightforward.

    - hire people w the needed, basic skills (audio)
    - train if they don't (long lazy summers)
    - cross train staff
    - test before going live

These audio issues are also reoccurring in our brand new stadium, we've had halftime ceremonies w garbled sound. All the more irritating as we boast about being a top-notch institution, elite, etc.

While playoff attendance utterly sucks across the country, you aren't wrong.
Going from 17,000 vs. Southern Utah to (presumably) 6,000 in a playoff game on national TV is wild. Goes to show how much people in CA (students and community) care about the actual football.

This can change though! I think Plough has things moving in a good direction, but he needs some real commitment from the people in Mrak, etc. Can't do it by himself, and neither could Hawk. It takes more than an energetic HC and AD.

I really think its a matter of the literal worst timing to have these huge games. With quarter system everyone is having finals starting Friday through the entire week after the game. The attendance in the playoffs has been pretty terrible across the board I agree. The community aspect always surprises me that more people from the surrounding counties don't come to games (which I think is in part that they have never heard of any of the teams we are playing largely in FCS, including URI). I think the fact we have had almost 100% capacity (at least in tickets sold) this year is a testament to the growth into having solid fan support despite the potential letdown (that I hope ends up be less bad of a turnout) that the playoffs seem to face. I have more friends going to this game than last playoff game but I still know a ton of people who are taking 18 units and feel way too pressured (whether they actually have the time, are studying, or scroll on their phones wasting it) with upcoming finals to come out. Its unfortunate but just the truth.
