you should have asked him if the Rams are happy to play in JV. Jk that is pretty cool. I hope he enjoyed his visit despite the Ags win.

As an aside, the camera work was great last night!

Quite pleased with the broadcast, the atmosphere in the feed was great, and they put Davis in a good light. I think the team needs to get used to there being more cameras around and it being more for the refs to draw from on close calls - the reviews are going to happen, be prepared accordingly.

Can someone explain to me how that FG by Ridley was seemingly really close and not reviewed?
  • AggieFinn

Somebody can look up the rule, but I want to say that if you kick it over the goal post, like Hunter did, and in the refs estimation the ball crosses the plane of the goal post at any point by rule you call it a miss. That's the only explanation I can come up with, because it sure looked close to slightly inside the upright from the camera feeds, but we did not see directly under the goal post for the definitive look.

I will say Hunter did miss that field goal, but he was kicking the snot out of the ball last night. His leg looks very strong, and that could be huge for us next Saturday.

Yes, the offiicials always stand directly under the goal posts to see if the ball passes inside of them, so they have the indisputably best view. I don't think any video review can overturn such a perspective unless they put camersa exactly under the goal posts.

when we checked into the Hyatt yesterday (cheapest rate I’ve ever seen) the receptionist was STOKED about the game. She’s a senior and couldn’t wait to freeze and cheer on the team.

Saw her this morning and she was still floating on air. Said they stood the whole game, never stopped cheering and NOBODY left.

I told her I don’t expect many students this week ….’give out good merch and some might stick around’. Hopefully she’s not out there cheering by herself

Media relations need to go overdrive and start talking to the local radio stations and tv stations to pump up the game for next week. Everyone should be hearing about the game. I'm calling to some radio stations to show interest in the game.

There isn't really much going on next week and people are looking for something to do. We should push it out a family atmosphere, cheap tickets, enjoy playoff college football for everyone!

2025 NCAA FCS Championship Second Round - Rhode Island Vs UC Davis

Way to go Aggies! I really enjoyed the atmosphere, and we commented all night how impressive the student section was given the available excuses. Three sections of students were nearly filled, they were cheering and dancing and it looked like a college football game. Empty seats where the Rhode Island fans were, and a little sparse near the band and on that end, but otherwise it felt like it would have shown well on TV.

Three first half possessions inside the Rams' 20 YL and only 3 points, including a bad interception at the goal line and a questionable call on the missed FG or else we're out in the parking lot celebrating at halftime. The TD drive for Davis right before the half was critical. Flipped the entire feeling of the game. URI goes 3-and-out twice to start the second half and we score on both those opportunities and the route was on.

    A few parting thoughts:
-The DE Pena #8 was as advertised. Outstanding football player.
-The QB was good but just what we see every week in BIg Sky play.
-Our DL showed up in the second half when it mattered with pressure from a lot of different guys. The QB got happy feet and took his eyes down instead of looking downfield.
-Credit to our DC for scaling back some of the blitzes in the second half, I think that was his adjustment, or it at least felt that way. The DL created most of the pressures it felt like.
-Ags Offensive Line ran the ball well, pass pro felt just OK.
-CP was spectacular with his legs. Wow. URI was in man coverage chasing our guys and it felt like Caden had a great feel for when to run and when not to. He made two moves on the same scramble that were as impressive as anything I've ever seen.

All we need is one more point than the other guys this time of year to keep the season alive so not going to split hairs, not my job. Impressive atmosphere, even more impressive performance by this young football team. On to the next!

I’m not sure if it was the cold or the fog that had poor Cori the Rocket Dog confused on the last couple kickoffs. I’m guessing the weather affected his sense of smell. On the last kickoff, he was all over the place - was at the opposite 30 yard line as URI was getting ready to run their play. I was hoping he’d pee on the referee but no such luck

It was probably the national TV audience. We've made a lot of observations and shared a lot of opinions on this board this season, so the tee fetching canine should not be exempt. Very subpar performance from Corey, I actually felt embarrassed for the damn dog on that one. Didn't have a clue. I expect more from a veteran dog, can't freeze up like that on the big stage. Hopefully the trainer is putting in some extra work this week. As the program elevates and plays more ESPN games, Corey needs to understand that we can simply pull another dog from the portal, I mean the pound, and replace her if the lights are too bright... (This is only a joke. I love Corey the Rocket Dog, she'll figure it out).

I think on the squib kick, the tee went flying about 10 yards, so it wasn’t where he’s trained to look - after that, it got worse!

On a side note, I’m a moderator for a Aggie fan page on Facebook (UC Davis Aggie football - Aggie Pride). Since Saturday, we’ve had 32 requests for new users (all legit) and several people posting comments for the first time! So, good to see some new excitement!

Dogs can be trained to find objects, usually birds, by scent or sight. Dew usually enhances the scent, making it easier for the canine to find their target. Corey looks like a lab. They are usually great retrievers.

I thought the two interesting information for me is that Carter Vargas has an outside chance of playing the next game. Also, I thought the last Pinnick touchdown was impressive but too risky for my taste. I was surprised that Plough was mad at Pinnick for that play as well.

"Build a great environment and your guys will want to stay" Plough has the right idea when it comes to the transfer era. Try to encourage the young bucks to stick for 2-3 years for the many great reasons he stated in the presser, and help the older guys realize their dreams if they want to leave. The key is always keep it about the kids and their best interest. Can't lose.

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned Kai Acia. He had 9 tough carries mostly up the middle for ~4 per carry. He played an important role keeping some drives moving. He's done a good job as RB2 after being #4 on the depth chart to start the season.
