Jackson to take over the Sac State team?
  • CA Forever
    929
There's a rumor Sac State is interested in Jackson, not that he has been hired. I have to think that would be a weird move for Jackson. He had a very successful first year at Delaware State. I think it would make more sense for him to build another year there and if successful there's probably some bigger name programs that come knocking. Going into the situation at Sac right now could be career suicide.

But if there's one thing we do know it's that Dr Wood LOVES sensationalism so trying to bring in a football household name like Jackson is right up his alley.

Hard choices: Jackson has the advantage of currently coaching a team called the Hornets. Carter was apparently once a dancer for rapper MC Hammer.

Hey, Carter could co-star with Lil Yachty at a post-game concert!

All they need is the games.

I think they've currently got 4 games on the schedule for next year so, if that's all they can get, maybe the whole team could redshirt while they continue to fumble their way to varsity, FBS football in 2027!

I still think Taylor is the best fit by a mile, but does he fit what they're (Woods) looking for? Plus, he may not even want to be part of that mess.

Carter is interesting. He is an outstanding recruiter and very well connected, especially in NorCal.

Hopeless situation FCS but unlikely to have a schedule that gives them a shot at the playoffs. No conference championship. How do they get motivated to play with nothing to play for? They are going to lose talent compared to this last year. No one with a job, or the prospect of one is going to take that job.

Good point. How does an independent in the FCS get into the playoffs??

Posts like the Matt Zenitz one seem to fall into the "It's a slow news day and I need to post SOMETHING...ANYTHING" category. The only legit possibility in Zenitz's post is Troy Taylor because he's the only one currently without a job in football.

Until Sac St. has a full schedule, say a minimum 8-9 games, it's not going to be a desirable destination for prospective head coaches, assistants or players. Sac State is a stepping stone, which even Dr. Luke Wood acknowledges. A team with a 4-game schedule isn't going to help anyone climb the ladder. I think the lack of a full schedule and the obvious difficulty in filling out a schedule are the biggest reasons Brennan Marion left.

…and of those four games only three have set a date. The fourth, Lamar, is still “TBA.”

I'd take $750k to coach 4 games. I'm not sure the schedule was why BM left. I think it might have a little more to do with salary $ and the ability to grow his Go-Go brand.

It will be interesting to see the egos at play in Boulder.....The "Prime" brand and the "Go-Go" brand. Does "Prime" let "Go-Go' share some spotlight? I bet Marion lasts a year.

Agree with the grow his brand and the potential conflicts. And given Deon's recent health issues, does Marion see himself as head coach in waiting?

I don't think it was a money issue (as per Dr. Wood). I also think he didn't see 4 games growing hs brand.

Leaving Sac State for Colorado may be an out of the frying pan and into the fire situation. Colorado's athletic department reported to be facing severe financial issues. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/big12/2025/12/02/colorado-athletics-budget-deficit-deion-sanders-colorado-football-contract-nil/87560914007/

I don't see Marrion as the coach in waiting at Colorado. Prime isn't exactly killing it in Boulder, and he isn't exactly coaching royalty right now. Made the Alamo Bowl last year and got rolled. Finished 3-9 in 2025. Health issues. Portal-reliant. Sinking ship. The only scenario I see that Marrion becomes HC at Colorado is if Prime steps down mid-season and they plug the OC in as interim. 1 year, maybe 2 before he's Gone-Gone.

No argument. But my point was how Marions sees his position.

If he comes in and significantly improves the offense, which I think he has a good chance of doing, Marion positions himself to either succeed Prime, or get a position at another school that's better than anything Sac State could achieve within the same time period..

Colorado was 111th in Total Offense, 91st in Pass Offense, 103rd in Rushing offense and 114th in Scoring Offense in 2025. The Hornets had more yardage in all categories than Colorado (even with a terrible passing QB) and averaged more points per game. His UNLV offenses were also more productive.

Only place to go, especially in the rushing department, is UP! There is no question Marrion is a talented Offensive Coordinator. Dude has put up numbers everywhere he's been. He is also pretty creative. I was dumbfounded that they were in a position to beat us with something like 10 total pass attempts with most of those attempts not being anywhere close to completion! Possibly the worst-Quarterbacked Division I football game in history. It will be interesting to see how it goes up in Boulder. Marrion is a proven recruiter as well.

Enjoy this silly post I conjured up  :

Sacramento State Settles Lil Yachty Halftime Debacle, Named Head Coach
    SACRAMENTO, Calif.
In one of the strangest resolutions in college sports history, Sacramento State has hired rapper Lil Yachty as its head football coach to settle a months-long dispute over his infamous four-minute halftime performance at October’s homecoming game, multiple sources told Big Sky Conference Athletics Fan Forums. Sacramento State will also bring a live panda enclosure to the campus, stoking animal rights and Montana Grizzly fan outrage.

The Grammy-nominated artist was contracted for a 20-minute set but abruptly left the stage after four minutes, citing “safety” and “bad vibes.” Students booed, refunds were demanded, and the story trended for many days. Instead of litigation or payment, both parties agreed: Yachty, 27, takes the head coaching job through 2029 with salary ranges from $1,000,000 first year to $2.1 Million in year 4.

Yachty promised to install a spread offense called “The Boat.” Community organizers plans to levy the university to build a new athletic facility for football exclusively at the edge of the American River, as well as build a nearly 40 foot long model pirate ship near the west end zone.

New signage is already up: “Welcome to The Marina.” Introductory press conference Friday; sailboat hats are recommended.

In all honestly, I think the potential coach pool looks promising. A strong recruiter would be a huge plus. Alonzo Carter would be a smart pick in my short research done.
