They have posted the game niotes in the schedule and there is a depth chart. Lots of ORs
The players aren’t listed in alphabetical order. Make of it what you will.
DE 96 Jaden Few (Fr., 6-5, 250) -or-
94 Jacob Psyk (Gr., 6-3, 265)
-or-
56 Julius Ray (Jr., 6-2, 250)
Does that mean Jaden Few is the #1 guy? No way.
Interesting they list so many freshmen. I doubt most of them play but they must look good
They moved Nava to Main’s spot at right guard, put Porotesano at right tackle.
If you listened to Ploughs press conference he said this year was the first that players gained weight. The roster weight are updated. Zaire Collier is 320lbs, Jace Rodriguez the left guard is 305, Porotesano is 300 Eli Simonson at 295 is the lightest lineman likely to start.
he mentioned a couple guys that were injured at the scrimmage and were out but i didn't get names (probably were nicknames that I'm not familiar with).
I'll have to skip the viewing party on Saturday -> youth soccer kicks off saturday and the last (or 4) grandkid games starts at 4:00. I'll listen and then catch more of the game on TV while a bunch of them probably end up in our pool.
There is no way in the next decade that Sac state pays out 400,000 plus to play us unless they back door into the Pac-12. Which is very unlikely at this point. The highest odds are that the entire house of stingers comes tumbling down and Sac state folds their tent on the entire sports program.
At least this should be an easier start than Randy Wright had at Cal. At the lunch Plough basically said what Dr. Mike wrote above. And listening to him, one thing I’m confident on, we won’t get out coached. Who’s going to control the clock Saturday?
We are associated with SACST and have been for a very long time. That being said, natural rivalries make the sport overall better.Cal has Stanford. USC has UCLA. Why? Because they are geographically relevant. We have that in SACST vs UCD. Don't minimalize it, embrace it. Promote it. Make it a Sacramento Metro Area game that everyone watches.
If Sac will agree to continuing the home and home series, we should do that, just like we did when we were D2 and they were I-AA. If they only want home games, they need to pay like Cal or Stanford or other FBS options, which they won't be able to. So that'll be the end of that until we move up.
Maybe Sac should buy out Stetson for us if they want our game so badly! (a perceived sell-out home win in their view) It appears Sac has plenty of money laying around just waiting to be spent. Davis is clearly not in a financial position to be buying out contracts.
But more seriously, it sounds like Davis is going to honor its contract with Stetson, which I assume was agreed to a year or more ago? This is completely reasonable as business relationships/reputations are important.
Sac is leaving the Big Sky, is leaving the FCS, is leaving the Causeway Classic.
The notion that Davis is somehow responsible for the possibility of the end of the yearly football game is preposterous and not grounded in reality, yet, its all over their board.
Sac has created two issues:
1. Does it make sense for Davis to play a rivalry game on the road every year? No
2. Does it make sense for Davis to play the same FBS team every year? No
An improved outing last night on the road vs. Pacific. Still need to work on discipline, as UCD had 2x as many fouls as UOP, gave up 3 more corners than we won, and had 2 offsides to none for the Tigers.
I like that Mertz is playing lots of people in the first two games, including two goalies for a half each. Traci Joyner is an outstanding coach, but one criticism I had was that she plays field starters too much. That trend is continuing in her first two games at Oregon. And only gave one goalie any playing time at all.
Mertz is having to deal with the fallout from that now. Only 5 of the Aggies' returning players had anything close to significant playing time under Joyner. In addition to the lack of truly experienced players returning this season, research indicates that greater playing time potentially compromises running performance during late season and postseason competition. Maybe partly why Davis didn't get over the hump in the Big West Tournament.
From my own coaching experience, I believe players need actual game experience as well as practice time to develop optimally. And, if players know they really can or will get regular, significant playing time, they work harder in practice. Not just for the opportunity, but to prepare themselves to take advantage of it.
This is a little overly dramatic, but lots of folks are definitely frustrated right now!.
Maybe with Dr. Wood being relatively quiet lately, something good is actually in the works? The President's address is Thursday 8/21. He usually avoids the athletics topics though because the audience is a consists mostly of sports hating superlibs and faculty.
All those athletics upgrades were designed around the football stadium, as part of a plan to enclose it when the stadium was renovated (and upgrade the football program/facilities). And that's what it looks like architecturally as well.
Not a good look to just abandon the plan at this point. It makes everything appear to be poorly thought out, which appears to be true.
What about all the $ they've spent on the Broad Fieldhouse and whatever the heck they built on the north side? Wasn't this stuff all or mostly for football? Money down the drain?
Cal Expo idea feels pretty desperate. Moving the stadium off campus sounds like a terrible idea. Its going to make the student atmosphere even worse. Ask everyone who plays (or played) off-campus....San Diego State, San Jose State, even UCLA. Its really hard to get students to travel to a home game. And yes, even a 5 mile trip is far when you are living on campus. Anything more than a walk and students don't want to go.
Why doesn't Wood chill for a minute.....so frantic.
Cal Expo certainly needs investment. It used to be a really nice fairground and was allowed to fall into disrepair. As the crow flies, not that far from Sac State but not exactly walking distance from the dorms either. From a taxpayer perspective, may be a good thing because with Cal Expo involved, it means Luke Wood is not solely in charge, so it has some chance of not being screwed up. But goes on to show that his “shovel ready” plans for an “on campus” facility were always a lie… this guy’s relationship with the untruth is next level. From a construction perspective this might or might not be less expensive. That grandstand was built in 1967. Depending on what has already been done, there could be plenty of lead paint, asbestos, seismic, life safety and ADA work. My experience with this type of construction project is you don’t know what you don’t know so you have to budget for the unknown.
Preview. Weird that they only name Psyk, Rutchena and Ty Richardson out of our grad transfers.
Davis wouldn’t be a top 15 preseason team without players that don’t get a mention in this video, Derrell Porter, Riddick, Batson, and Allen.
In agreement with PA - we do not make an effort to stifle free speech here, but if we can be respectful and type responsibly, it certainly goes a long way to a better discussion.
Just a reminder, we'll have a small group gathering at Stadium Pub in Walnut Creek next Saturday the 23rd. If all the East Bay Aggies want to come on in, we can make it a big group. Stadium Pub is a great place to be on gameday, it's very Gradsy.
KICKOFF from Montgomery will be 4:00 pm Pacific Time Live on ESPN.
One of our tougher games this year. Mercer’s offense is largely intact from last year but strengthened with transfer offensive linemen. They lost a QB to Oklahoma but return the QB they started the year with prior to injury. They have veteran running backs one of who weighs about 230ln, and veteran receivers. We aren’t likely to have a very low scoring game. Can the Davis defense mesh with all the new personnel in the first game?
Game features Hero Sports #2 ranked defensive end Zock for Mercer and #5 defensive end Psyk for Davis.
