hard to compare since they’ve only gone to this extended give ‘day’ the past couple years. This is the most ‘gifts’ that I can remember. Last year was the first that they offered lower level gifts that opened with 30-50 donors. Seems like we’re ahead of the past and the number of higher end gifts at 300-350 is much higher.
It should ramp up the end of next week. Plenty of time for everyone to add another email address!
I guess posting that you’re actually staying with your team is a thing now. I’ve seen Chappell, Sevilla, Rawlins, and Fagbemi all say they are returning. Go Ags!
Saw a bit of practice. I truly believe we have a top 5 cornerback tandem in the nation. Cofield and Richardson are legit. @SG you’re spot on, two man race at QB with the nicest throw coming from Cleeland (70 yard play action corner route to Gbatu). Slight changes in scheme, I’d expect less pass plays with moving pockets like last year. Idaho safety transfer looked solid at FS
i think as we get closer to Give Day(s), they will ramp things up. I haven't seen much of anything out there among the many UCD mailers/emails/socials i have access to.
i think the reality is that we are in no position to compete financially, especially moving into a conference where many of the schools have resources to spend. Until we start to get some conference money, we're definately going to struggle in this environment. I won't be surprised to see Wilson and Cooper move up to a better spot, both in terms of conference quality and dollars. Not sure about Stokes (i don't think he was highly recruited out of high school and his freshman year was decent). The others? Lost in the ether.
I don't follow the portal, so i have no idea how our former Big West teams are doing with regard to losing guys. I suspect all but UCI, UCSB and UCSD (i know, no longer BWC) are losing key players.
I wouldn't be surprised if Les decides enough is enough and heads off into the sunset after this season.
Well the Wilson news really sucks (though again, not surprised). Jdur, I'm with you on your Les opinion. Over the last few years, excitement at the games has plummeted, i can usually pick just about where we will finish in the BW standings before the season begins, and, although I was very pumped for this past years recruits, it doesn't do much good if they don't produce and then jump ship. I'm sure we'll grab some good guards in the portal, and maybe a guy with size who ends up not playing much. They'll be some excitement when UNLV/Nevada/New Mexico come to town, but at the end of the day we'll be at or just below the mid line in the MW and be a first round out in the tournament. Sigh!
I think until the transfer portal rules are fixed this is just the reality of college sports. I know Les has been a divisive topic on this forum, but I don't think it's a bad idea to look for other options going forward as we transition to the Mountain West. His overall record at Davis is 229-230 with only 2 appearances in the NIT and 1 NCAA tournament appearances with the last post season appearance in the 2017-2018 season all in 15 seasons at the helm. It's the definition of mediocrity in my opinion and we should be striving for better than mediocre.
1. QB's look like head to head battle between Treynor Cleeland and Jackson Kollack. Kollack looks the part of a big time QB. Throws a pretty ball. Carries a bit of a swagger. . Cleeland has a strong arm, but missed some throws. Pretty good athlete. Can scramble. Eason looks 3rd string and left...looks like he pulled a hammy.
2. Offensive line is shaky. LT today was a problem, blown by and pushed around.. Def can tell this might be our weakest link on the team. Curious who the starting LT will be. Center had a number of bad snaps which resulted in QB's having to pick up the ball on the ground resulting in sack, blown up play, or scramble.
3. Drew Cofield with two great plays today. A great over the shoulder INT and a big tackle later in the flat. Both got sidelines hyped.
4. Keep an eye on Brayden Rosa #37 who was making plays all over the field. Had a nice sack. Very quick with a high motor.
5. Julian Fernandez made a great INT pick six. He is one big kid. The defense looks really good, but that's usually the case early in practice. Still, the overall talent on defense looks improved. Adding Rex and Porter will only make them stronger.
Every year, I want to start watching Davis baseball, but the video quality has been bad or I can hear the announcer’s audio getting repeated and I have to hear him say things twice.
If it’s not on ESPN+, is there really no way to watch the game? I see the “Live Stats” option on their schedule, but it’s not the same.
So is most of the Iowa State team. Both went to the NCAA Tournament. Makes one appreciate coaches like Jen Gross. Cori Close at UCLA is apparently similar to Gross in her emphasis on the person and relationships.
I’m looking forward to watching Kollock in action. I met him in Costco a week ago. He’s a big dude. His HS stats are impressive:
HIGH SCHOOL: Attended Laguna Beach High School in Laguna Beach, Calif. ... Wore No. 12 for the Breakers and was coached by John Shanahan ... Set school career records for passing yards (7,087), passing touchdowns (94), total offensive yards (7,820) and total touchdowns (115) ... As a senior, lead team to a 10-2 record and threw for 1,711 yards and 21 touchdowns ... Rushed 315 yards and eight touchdowns .
