Program held an open summer workout today for some supporters (not sure how I made the cut). NCAA limits them to 1 hour on the court, 4 days a week. They follow that with weights and then summer school. 14 guys practiced today - the transfer from CSUN is getting his certificate tomorrow from the school, and will be allowed to practice after that.

lots of very spirited one-on-one, two-on-two, three-on-two drills on both defense and offense. Stokes really looks much stronger this year, and his jumper is much improved. Chappell looks bigger, and still has the smooth stroke. Omer's game took another jump!

Hard to get a read on the new guys except that we are MUCH bigger and MUCH longer than in the past. The big guys all can run, and most have nice shots - modern players. Noble does NOT look or play like a freshman. He's a real physical presence.

Game times are still TBA, and sounds like that won't change for a few weeks.

legit question - how is the big sky accepting to PSU playing in such an odd stadium? I'm not trying to be rude but the difference in investment between them and other big sky teams seems like something the conference would want to fix...

Looking at the list, makes me NOT want to make the jump up to FBS until we are really, really, really ready with respect to facilities, fan support, players, and money. Feels like we just got to the top level of FCS and I would like to enjoy it for a few years.

Sac State was somewhat correct when they stated "FBS or Bust." For them, my guess is that it will be FBS AND Bust."

Man I'm so pumped college football is back! Let's put a whooping on the Viks this week! Ticket sales are still looking abysmal for PSU. They have entire sections without a seat sold in them. Ags going to have to prepare for a low energy affair.

Poly leads the Ags 2-0 at the half. Poly scored on two easy goals and the Ags misfired on their two best chances they had in the half. However, with 20 seconds to go in the half a Poly player got a yellow card which was reviewed on video by the referee and he changed the call to a red card on the Poly player and a yellow on the Aggie player so Poly is down to 10 for the second half.

I'm watching the game on the MW+ network and it is excellent...much, much better than what we've gotten used to seeing on ESPN+ especially the camera work and replays. Sound quality is excellent also.

I felt like Lan (Larison) certainly had a good performance, a gritty, tough performance tonight, and did some really good things. It is fourth and one, and he gets hit behind the line of scrimmage and finds a way to get the first down. And then we have another long pass, and he makes, and then he is able to break a couple tackles there in third down when we needed it at the end of the game, so he did some good things.

Attended the pre season gathering today which included the showing of the “last causeway classic” movie. Its a great movie diving into the planning of the game, Aggie Pride, Davis philosophy, and some analysis of the game. They also gave out some cool game-day yard posters. Overall a very fun afternoon.

Looks like the boys got updated home jerseys from Adidas. Added Cal Aggie logo on the shoulder and new number font to match “UC DAVIS” lettering. Still no names on the back, and no CA logo either. They look sharp.

One week away from football- weeeeeee.

I spent a bunch of time in Portland in the 90s, it was great. My girlfriend while at Davis was from Northwest Portland. Great coffee shops, record stores, restaurants, live music all within walking distance of where she lived. I hope the city is recovering for everyone who lives there.

Providence Park seems like a cool spot. A few years back Oregon State played some games there, seemed like a great atmosphere. I thought about making the trek from Boise to check out a game but it didn't work out. It's probably unlikely but if Portland State ever plays in Providence Park against Davis, I'll make the trip.

And Elliott Smith was great, saw him once at the El Rey Theater in LA but never in Portland. I still listen to his music often.

I doubt that he is getting anywhere near the coaching at WSU that he got at Davis. We will see and I hope ,him well.

This is the first time I see more home games than away games for out of conference play.

Hopefully St. Mary’s is a strong WCC team. They beat Fresno 4-0, doubling our score. Realistically, it’s going to take a few years to rebuild after Joiner stripped the cupboard when she left for Oregon.

The English Championship is something like the 6th best soccer league in the world. I went to a Championship game (Watford) a few months ago and the season ticket holders sitting with me were complaining how hard it was to get promoted into the Premier League. Hopefully the Wrexham show along with Ted Lasso are helping build US appreciation for how storied and exciting even non-Premiership football is in the UK, and how big of a deal it is for players like Max to get significant time there.

In terms of ambiance and attendance, it definitely felt like my experiences at MLS games. Very "big time" (just not Manchester/Arsenal big) and not comparable to minor leagues in US sports. So it's awesome for Max to have a chance to build some brand recognition as a starter and hopefully star.

My wife and I are taking a woodworking class that is on the PSU gameday so we'll miss the game live. I won't be checking scores or looking at posts on the forum so I can watch the game on replay once it's over without knowing the outcome.

Worth noting that nationally televised conference and home noncon games, of which there will be a lot more than in the BW, likely won't be available on MW+. Some time ago in the thread I did a back of the napkin calculation to guess that maybe one in four games would fall into this more limited category.

MWC TV partners are Fox, CBS, and The CW -- so to see every possible broadcast you'd want a cable or streaming option that has as much as possible of Fox, FS1, FS2, CBS, CBS Sports Net, and The CW. I use Hulu With Live TV which has all of them but I've seen mention of others like a Youtube TV sports plan.

So to break it down, especially in conference season, I'm guessing you're looking at 3/4 of the games on MW+, then the need for some cable TV plan (or a sports bar) for the rest.

Thinking the Ags battle PSU roughly evenly the first quarter or more until QB settles in and the team understands more about what kind of defense they're running, then make it comfortable in the second half. Something like a 10 or 14 point win that isn't as close as it seems, with a relatively large TOP for a Plough team due to reliance on ground game / safe playcalling.

I likely won't even be able to watch that day and I'm mentally preparing for a stressful experience checking scores in the first half.

Thanks! Its been so fun getting the kids settled here. There is so much to do, you forget you moved here and don't have to do everything all at once! I've never met Joe but I've been to the Twin Lotus Thai, great place. My plans are to creat a "California themed" jazz bar out here. It will be funded by my California burrito and tacos by day, Jazz at night. The good news is there is zero competition for Mexican food in this market. Once set up I plan to get local artists from the state and elsewhere for nightly performances. I'd love to have your kid come out for a couple shows :)
