The camera work was terrible and this is not unique to Sac State. ESPN+ has minimum requirements 6 positions with 1080i broadcast cameras at 60fps but ultimately the school hires the production. You’d need 150-300fps capable cameras to have good replays and probably 10 positions. Sidelines inside the 20 have poor angles and the track puts the cameras extra far away. The refs got this one wrong for sure, though the cameras they had to work with may have been inconclusive. I don’t know if suspending them solves much. Refs at even at the NFL level are not paid all that well. For Big Sky I think they make $500-$900 per game, so these are guys who are either retired or have a day job and probably took Friday off work to travel. Given that the conference all but acknowledged that the outcome of the game is incorrect, perhaps the committee will think of it as something less than a full win. The comments among some of the Sac faithful defending the outcome as just, well we can see who hasn’t reached the Maslow’s self actualization stage.
Man I'm too worked-up from what might have been in Bozeman and the crap call on the sideline that gave Sac that catch. Going to get a lift in and clear my head, I'll jump back in tomorrow or Wednesday once I settle down. Pray for me. Go Ags!
I've never seen a "plastic cup snake" like the MSU fans were making in the stands last night. Man, that thing must of had a 1000 cups in it. It's a testament to how much they like their beer!
honestly their stadium is already pretty fantastic and somewhere I could see Aggie Stadium going (horseshoe around one end, nice and tall bleachers on sidelines overhanging concourses, premium seating under the scoreboard). It’s going to be a definitive FCS stadium after the upgrade I think.
It’s a beautiful night though temperature is dropping fast. Don’t recall seeing much moisture in the ground on my way here so I think/hope weather is as minimally impactful as it could be given the location
Like DrMike said, getting into the parking area was the worse I’ve ever seen. They really need to put a few traffic cops at the intersection turning into the parking area. One direction of cars would block the intersection when the other direction had the green.
The crowd was amazing! I hope the students had so much fun that they come back.
A couple keys in the first half. First, we were down 24-14 and really struggling offensively. Combination of good defense/rebounding, a couple Sevilla buckets and easy hoops on assists closed a gap that threatened to get out of hand. Second was with about 3:30 left in the half, down 30-24 with Sac in possession. Fagbemi strips Williams two times in a row, we close the gap and Williams got out of his game.
I don’t think we’re as bad a 3 point shooting team as the stats show. We’re getting good looks, shots look good out of the hand…..and out it goes. Seems like a confidence thing right now.
Speaking of confidence….Wilson’s shot at the end seemed like he had no doubt it was going in.
As for Boyd’s question about the courtside lounge - it’s a better look than what would normally be empty bleachers. It’s nice to have a beer/pizza option on the ground level. Now, if they would move the souvenir stand to a spot where people might actually see it, sales would go up!
My biggest complaint of the arena is the entrance into and exit out of parking. They need to figure out how to get cars in without cycling through the stop/walk lights. And have one or two of the Caltran trained parking attendants actually direct bike and pedestrians so cars don’t have to wait for a string of people to pass. Make the getting into the arena the priority! Took us about 20 minutes from the Hutchinson exit to our Team Aggie parking area (not policed very well, so spots were limited). Crazy - glad we got to Davis somewhat early
Tall task ahead in Bozeman against what is clearly the class of the Conference at this point of the season. Injuries and excuses won't matter tomorrow night, time to dance with the ones you brought. That being said, to pull the upset:
1. Everyone has to be available for the duration of the game. Missing a guy for a series or two could be the difference at critical positions.
2. MSU will need to help the Ags in some way. Come out overconfident and overhyped, turn the ball over, screw up on Special Teams, stupid penalties, whatever. They will need to provide hope and opportunities.
3. That being said, the Aggies will need to capitalize on any and every opportunity, something they have yet to do. They've had chances to blow out several opponents and haven't gotten it done. I'm not saying they have to score on every drive; they need to score when opportunity presents itself.
4. Keep it close going into the 4th quarter to give yourself a chance to win. By close, I'm talking within 14 points and the ball in possession. Then it only takes a score, a stop, and another score to make it an entirely new ballgame. Davis has gamebreakers at WR, RB, and QB. One play, one missed tackle, on great block. Give yourself the "puncher's chance" I talked about earlier.
This is a big night for UC Davis Football and for the Big Sky brand. Compete your asses off, find joy in the opportunity, and GO AGS!
Nya Epps used her energy to get the Ags going in the second half and the Aggies steadily pulled away for a 75-52 victory over the Wildcats. Epps led the Ags with 20 points, 5 assists 4 rebounds and 2 steals followed by Ryan Bennett with 16 points, 5 assists and 5 rebounds and Avery Sussex with 15 points and 5 rebounds. Megan Norris just missed another double double with 9 points and 9 rebounds.
Jeff Bourque has been running Strength & Conditioning since 2017, and the Edwards Athletic Facility/Bobb Biggs Field opened in 2022.
Not sure about athletic training staff. Based on the nature of the injuries, this probably isn't on them? By that I mean: the injuries seem more like acute/traumatic stuff that leads to the season being unquestionably (i.e. broken bones and torn ligaments), as opposed to nagging injuries that the athletic trainers failed to resolve or scenarios where the trainers make a judgment call.
These injury-ridden campaigns tend to happen every 5-10 yrs across all contact sports. I wouldn't read too much into it. The last I can recall was under Gould as well and that was roughly 10 yrs ago.
This is an important one. It shows how we are getting closer to being included as one of the top-tier FCS programs with Montanas/Dakotas. It also shows how far apart the Dakotas are from everyone else. Football is top priority for those top 4 schools, no doubt.
That is said to be from Massey, so its based on a web of comparative scores. That is the same percentage that Sagarin gives in line with their 17 point differential prediction..
Quality of life matters to Plough. He gets to watch and coach his kids play baseball in the off-season, among other benefits. How many people would love to work and live in their small college town? He's in a great spot, and has earned it
Marquis Bell has been stepping up. Number 1 ranked in passes defended in conference play, Number 3 in the big sky passes defended, and 22 in the nation in passes defended. Him and Cofield has been locking it down in coverage.
Dr wood. “The cal expo is needed for space. As you can see we are packed out. “ while talking in front of the visitor side that is half covered in tarps and the portion not covered is half empty. The home side of the stadium does have a decent turnout today.
He also now changed this wording to “being FBS next year”to “playing a FBS schedule next year”.
Dr. Wood just rubs me the wrong way. He does not act professionally which a school president/chancellor should and he does not represent the school well.
